Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction…
Mentoring is a voluntary, mutually beneficial and purposeful relationship in which an individual gives time to support another to enable them to make changes in their life.
Mentoring involves the use of the same models and skills of questioning, listening, clarifying and reframing associated with coaching.
How it works: The aim of the enterprise is to provide mentoring adapted to the needs of the individual with a mentor matched specifically to them. The mentors offer empathy, confidentiality, unconditional positive regard, impartial support and advice.
The individuals’ needs may be varied and could include mentoring, CV writing, social skills acquisition.
After the first encounter with a suitable mentor and following a brief assessment of needs, the individual will initially be offered a series of 6 sessions held at their convenience.
A review is then held to help agree the way forward. The 6 sessions/ review can then be prolonged in order to help meet the agreed end goal.
